Odoo vs Zoho Books for UAE Businesses

Last reviewed: By Kenobiz Solutions editorial team10 min read

Odoo and Zoho Books both suit UAE businesses, from freelancers upwards: both handle 5% VAT, a Corporate Tax report and bilingual invoices, and a first set-up for invoicing and accounting is quick with either. They differ in scope and in their route to the e-invoicing network. Zoho Books is accounting software that links to other Zoho apps, and Zoho is itself an accredited e-invoicing service provider (ASP). Odoo is one database for accounting, stock, purchasing, CRM, manufacturing and e-commerce, connected to an accredited ASP. Choose on where your business is heading.

Key facts

  • Zoho Books is an accredited ASP through Zoho Software Trading LLC (no. 121988), on the Ministry of Finance (MoF) list consulted on 10 October 2026. E-invoicing starts on the Professional plan: AED 90 a month billed annually (AED 129 monthly).
  • The first 100 Zoho e-invoicing transactions are free, then prepaid packs cost from AED 41 per 100 down to AED 20,000 per 100,000.
  • Zoho Books plans run from AED 0 (Free, no VAT or e-invoicing) to AED 660 a month (Ultimate, billed annually), per organisation, for 1 to 15 users.
  • Odoo runs accounting, inventory, purchasing, sales, CRM, manufacturing and e-commerce in one database, from a single user. It is licensed per user per month (prices on odoo.com/pricing): you can start with invoicing and accounting and add apps later.
  • 31 March 2027 is the ASP deadline for businesses with revenue below AED 50 million: whichever you choose must be live by 1 July 2027.

How do Odoo and Zoho Books compare, feature by feature?

Both handle UAE VAT, Corporate Tax reporting and bilingual invoices. Zoho Books is accounting software with optional Zoho apps around it: inventory is basic below its Elite plan, there is no manufacturing, and CRM and payroll are separate subscriptions. Odoo is an ERP whose inventory, manufacturing, CRM, payroll and e-commerce apps share the accounting database.

Should you choose Zoho Books or Odoo?

For a freelancer or a business that mainly invoices from one company, both do the job: choose the interface you prefer and think about where you will be in two or three years. Odoo is the stronger fit as soon as you manage stock in several places, buy with purchase orders, manufacture, run several companies or sell online. Zoho Books is the natural choice if you already run other Zoho apps.

Choose Zoho Books if…

  • You mainly issue invoices and record expenses.
  • You have up to 10 to 15 users (plans include 3 to 15).
  • You have no stock, or simple stock in one place.
  • You want the software and the ASP from the same vendor: Zoho is both.
  • You want e-invoicing included in your accounting subscription, from the Professional plan.
  • You already use other Zoho apps, such as Zoho CRM or Zoho Payroll.

Choose Odoo if…

  • You want to start with invoicing and accounting, then add CRM, projects, stock or e-commerce in the same database as you grow.
  • You hold stock in several warehouses or shops.
  • You buy through purchase orders and want receipts, supplier bills and stock to stay in step.
  • You assemble or manufacture products.
  • You run several companies, for example a mainland company and a free zone company, and want them in one system.
  • You sell online and want web orders, stock and invoices in one place.
  • You are anything from a freelancer to a team of around 200 users with growth plans, and would rather not add a subscription each time a need appears.

When the choice is not obvious

  • A service company of six to ten people with no stock: both fit. Odoo keeps CRM, projects and timesheets in the same database as the accounting; with Zoho Books, these come from separate Zoho apps.
  • A three-person trading company whose stock is growing fast: starting on Odoo avoids a migration later, since inventory and purchasing already sit in the same database. If you start on Zoho Books, plan the move before inventory becomes complex; a migration is much easier with clean data.

Are Zoho Books and Odoo ready for UAE e-invoicing?

Both can issue UAE e-invoices, by different routes. Zoho Software Trading LLC is an accredited ASP, and e-invoicing is built into Zoho Books from the Professional plan, with 100 free transactions and paid packs after that. Odoo produces the e-invoice data from its own accounting records and sends it through an accredited ASP; Odoo's own ASP status is shown in the box below.

Zoho Books. Zoho describes the set-up in two steps: select Zoho Software Trading LLC as your ASP in EmaraTax, the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) portal, then enable e-invoicing in Zoho Books. The Free and Standard plans do not include it, so a Standard user has to upgrade. After the free transactions, Zoho sells one-time packs:

PackPrice (AED)
100 transactions41
500185
1,000330
5,0001,500
10,0002,700
50,00011,500
100,00020,000

Every accredited ASP must give each customer 100 free e-invoice exchange and reporting services a year (Ministerial Decision No. 168 of 2026), so check how Zoho's free transactions are counted in your contract.

Odoo.

Whatever the route, Odoo builds the e-invoice from the same records as your stock, sales and accounting. Third-party connectors to accredited ASPs are published on the Odoo Apps store: check which ASP a connector uses, that this ASP is on the MoF list, and who maintains the connector. Our page on Odoo e-invoicing in the UAE covers the set-up step by step, and our comparison of UAE e-invoicing software puts both products next to the other options. For the latest Odoo release, see what's new in Odoo 20.

How much do Zoho Books and Odoo cost over three years?

Zoho Books Professional costs AED 3,240 over three years billed annually, plus e-invoicing packs beyond the free transactions, extra users and any other Zoho apps. Odoo costs its per-user licence over 36 months plus the set-up, which stays short for invoicing and accounting and grows with the scope. Compare both on the same scope: the more apps and companies you need, the more one database tends to save.

Two Zoho Books scenarios over three years

  • Small business: Professional billed annually (AED 3,240), about 1,000 e-invoices a year bought as three 1,000-transaction packs (AED 990), and Zoho Payroll for five employees (AED 35 a month billed annually, AED 1,260). Total: AED 5,490 over three years.
  • Growing trader with two companies: Elite for each company to get warehouses and batch tracking (2 × AED 3,360 × 3 years = AED 20,160) and 10,000 e-invoicing transactions a year (3 × AED 2,700 = AED 8,100). Total: AED 28,260 over three years, before Zoho CRM, Payroll or BillPay.

On the same scope, compare the two quotes line by line: plans or licences, e-invoicing transactions, extra users, separate apps (CRM, payroll, inventory) and set-up. As needs grow, extra organisations, the Elite plan for warehouses, CRM and payroll subscriptions and higher transaction volumes add up on the Zoho side, while Odoo adds apps in the same database; one system also saves the time spent re-keying between tools. How do you migrate from Zoho Books to Odoo?

Plan the move for a period end, ideally the end of a VAT period or financial year. Export your chart of accounts, contacts with their TRNs, items, opening balances and open invoices and bills from Zoho Books, import them into Odoo, set up the ASP route, test with real invoices, then switch. Keep Zoho's history for the legal retention period.

  1. Choose the cut-off date. File the last VAT return from Zoho Books, so each period is reported from one system.
  2. Map the chart of accounts and tax codes to Odoo's UAE localisation.
  3. Clean and move your contacts. Legal names, Tax Registration Numbers (TRNs) and addresses feed every e-invoice.
  4. Move products and stock quantities, with their valuation.
  5. Move opening balances and open items: unpaid customer invoices and supplier bills. Full history can stay in Zoho exports.
  6. Switch the ASP without a gap. If Zoho was your ASP, make sure the new route is active before you stop issuing from Zoho. A late e-invoice costs AED 100, up to AED 5,000 a month, and the same invoice must never be issued from both systems.
  7. Reconnect what sat around Zoho Books: Zoho CRM, Zoho Payroll, bank feeds and payment gateways.
  8. Keep the records. E-invoicing records must be kept for the Tax Procedures Law periods (generally 5 years, 7 for real estate): keep full exports or read-only access.
  9. Train the team on the new invoicing, purchasing and stock screens before go-live.

Our pick by profile

Freelancers and micro-businesses that mainly invoice can choose either Zoho Books Professional or Odoo with Invoicing and Accounting: both are compliant options, so pick the one you prefer and that fits your plans. Businesses up to around 200 users that manage stock in several places, purchase, manufacture, run several companies or sell online should choose Odoo. Teams already running Zoho Books smoothly can stay on it.

  • Freelancer or micro-business that mainly invoices: Zoho Books Professional or Odoo (Invoicing and Accounting), equivalent for this need. Odoo lets you add apps in the same database later; Zoho Books fits naturally if you already use other Zoho apps.
  • Small company with simple stock, one entity, up to ten users: Odoo with its Inventory app, or Zoho Books Premium or Elite (Elite for warehouses and batches); review the choice if you add a company or start producing.
  • From a freelancer to around 200 users, with stock in several places, purchasing, manufacturing, several companies or e-commerce: Odoo, with an implementation partner for the wider projects. See Odoo in the UAE.
  • Already running Zoho Books, CRM and Payroll without friction: stay with Zoho and check that e-invoicing is active on your plan (Professional or above). Review the choice if you add manufacturing or several companies.

These recommendations follow the criteria published in how we compare software. For a wider field, see the best accounting software in the UAE. Frequently asked questions

Is Zoho Books better than Odoo for a UAE business?

Neither is better across the board. For a freelancer or a small business that mainly invoices, both cover the need: 5% VAT, a Corporate Tax report, bilingual invoices and UAE e-invoicing, through Zoho's own ASP accreditation for Zoho Books and through a connector to an accredited ASP for Odoo. Odoo has the edge when you manage stock in several places, buy with purchase orders, manufacture, run several companies or sell online, because all of it shares one database with the accounting. If you already run other Zoho apps, Zoho Books fits naturally.

How much does Zoho Books cost in the UAE?

Zoho Books UAE plans cost, per organisation and per month: Free AED 0, Standard AED 69 (AED 60 billed annually), Professional AED 129 (AED 90), Premium AED 159 (AED 120), Elite AED 349 (AED 280) and Ultimate AED 799 (AED 660), excluding VAT, checked on 10 October 2026. E-invoicing requires Professional or above.

Is Zoho Books free?

Zoho Books has a Free plan for one user plus an accountant, up to 1,000 invoices a year, available only while annual revenue is AED 200,000 or less. It includes neither VAT tracking nor e-invoicing, so VAT-registered businesses and businesses that must issue e-invoices need a paid plan, from Professional upwards for e-invoicing.

What are the disadvantages of Odoo?

Odoo is not yet an accredited ASP itself, so its e-invoices go through a connector to an accredited ASP; its status is shown on this page. Several companies in one database and custom developments require its higher plan, and projects that cover several apps or a data migration are best run with an implementation partner.

Is Zoho an ERP?

Zoho Books is accounting software, not an ERP. Zoho One is a suite of separate Zoho apps (Books, Inventory, CRM, Payroll, Commerce and others) integrated together and sold at one price per employee or per user. Odoo is an ERP: its accounting, inventory, purchasing, CRM, manufacturing and e-commerce apps share one database.
