How We Compare Software

Every software comparison on this site uses the same eight criteria, the same types of sources and the same rules for recommending a product, set out here so you can check our work. It also explains our conflict of interest: the site is published by Kenobiz Solutions LLC, an Odoo partner.

What criteria do we use?

We apply these criteria to every product we cover, including Odoo:

CriterionWhat we checkWhy it matters
Official ASP statusIs the vendor (or the entity it names) on the Ministry of Finance (MoF) list of accredited service providers? If not, which accredited ASP does it connect to?From your mandatory date, e-invoices must go through an accredited ASP.
Public price in AEDThe price on the vendor's own pricing page, the plan needed for e-invoicing, and the date we checked. If a vendor only shows USD, we say so.Prices change and plans differ; an undated price is not useful.
Target usersCompany size and number of users the product is designed for.A tool built for a freelancer and one built for 150 users solve different problems.
Inventory and multi-companyStock, purchasing, warehouses, and managing several companies in one system.Trading, distribution and group structures need this; pure service businesses often don't.
Arabic and bilingual invoicesCan the software produce invoices in Arabic and English?Many UAE customers and authorities expect bilingual documents.
Local supportUAE presence, local partners, support hours and languages.Someone has to answer when an invoice is rejected the day before a VAT return.
VAT and Corporate Tax featuresVAT returns, Corporate Tax reports, multi-currency, audit trail.E-invoicing sits on top of VAT and Corporate Tax compliance, not instead of it.
Total cost over 3 yearsLicences, implementation, ASP fees beyond the free allowance, training and support over 36 months.The cheapest monthly plan is not always the cheapest project.

Where does the data come from?

  • ASP status: the official list of accredited service providers published by the MoF. The list consulted on 10 October 2026 had 65 accredited providers and 5 pre-approved ones. We check it every week.
  • ASP obligations: Ministerial Decision No. 168 of 2026. For example, every accredited ASP must commit to 100 free e-invoice exchange and reporting services per year for each customer, so we count that allowance in cost estimates.
  • Prices: the vendor's public pricing page, with the date of the check next to each price. If a website cannot be checked automatically, we record the price by hand and date it.
  • Features: the vendor's public documentation. When we cannot confirm a feature from a public source, we write "not confirmed" rather than assume it exists.
  • Experience: where we have implemented or used a product ourselves, we say so and keep it separate from the facts above.

When do we recommend Odoo?

We recommend Odoo when the profile fits these explicit criteria:

  • from a single user (a freelancer) to around 200 users;
  • needs beyond invoicing: inventory, purchasing, CRM, manufacturing, e-commerce or several companies;
  • growth plans, so the system will need to handle more people, products or entities over the next few years;
  • a 3-year total cost that compares well with the alternatives for the same scope.

We also state what to plan for with Odoo: an implementation partner for projects that cover several apps, and its ASP status:

When do we recommend something else?

  • Freelancers and micro-businesses that only need to invoice. Odoo fits from a single user, and so do accredited tools such as Zoho Books (Zoho is on the MoF list), Wafeq or TallyPrime: we present them side by side. Our Odoo vs Zoho Books comparison sets out the differences.
  • Businesses whose current software already works. If your accounting software is accredited, or connects to an accredited ASP, and covers your needs, keeping it is usually the cheapest option.
  • Large enterprises. Above about 200 users, or with complex group structures, tier-1 ERPs such as SAP, Oracle or Microsoft Dynamics 365 and their integrators are often a better fit. Our guide to ERP software in the UAE covers this range.

The best accounting software comparison and the e-invoicing software comparison apply these rules product by product. All our comparisons are listed on the software guides page.

What is our conflict of interest?

Kenobiz Solutions LLC is an Odoo partner and earns money when businesses hire it to implement Odoo. That is a real conflict of interest, and we manage it in four ways:

  1. Same criteria for everyone. Odoo is scored on the same table as every other product, including its weaknesses.
  2. Public, dated data. Prices and ASP status come from public sources that you can check yourself.
  3. Disclosure. Every comparison carries a transparency box, and the footer of every page names the publisher.
  4. No paid placements. No vendor or ASP pays to be listed or ranked. See our editorial policy.

On a call, we will tell you if your current software already covers your needs, even when that means we do not get the project.

How often do we update comparisons?

  • ASP status: checked every week against the MoF list. When a vendor is added or removed, we update the comparisons that mention it.
  • Prices and plans: re-checked at each page review; the check date is shown next to the price.
  • Major changes: a new decision from the MoF, or a change in a vendor's accreditation, is reflected in the guides and summarised in our news section.

Each page shows its "Last reviewed" date. If you spot outdated information, please tell us.
